How do chemical peels work?

Depending on the individual skin condition, we select peeling agents with varying penetration depths into the epidermis and dermis — classified as superficial, medium-depth, and deep peels. Superficial peels act only on the upper layers of the epidermis. They reduce unwanted pigmentation and refine the skin texture, making them ideal for fine acne scars, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and enlarged pores.

How does a fruit acid peel work, and what are its benefits?

Before treatment, the patient applies a low-concentration fruit acid cream at home for two weeks to prepare the skin. During the subsequent sessions at Pro Skin Solutions, the concentration and exposure time of the acids are gradually increased. Once the desired skin reaction is achieved, the acid is neutralized to stop its effect. This process results in a noticeably fresher, more radiant complexion — with no downtime, which is why it’s often called a “lunchtime peel.” Superficial peels are also part of our Hydrafacial treatments for deep skin cleansing. In addition to glycolic acid, we use salicylic acid, which gently exfoliates and is especially effective for acne-prone skin. Since glycolic acid has anti-inflammatory properties, the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is minimal.

What are medium-depth peels?

We use medium-depth peels with trichloroacetic acid (TCA) primarily for skin rejuvenation in cases of solar elastosis, acne scars, and diffuse actinic keratoses. Alternatively, similar effects can be achieved with retinol peels. Unlike mild glycolic acid peels, TCA and retinol peels may require longer recovery times, as the epidermis is intentionally exfoliated to trigger an intensive skin renewal process.

Is the treatment painful?

No. Depending on the exposure time, a mild tingling or burning sensation may occur but subsides immediately after neutralization or rinsing.

What should be considered before treatment?

Ideally, patients should arrive without makeup to avoid additional irritation from intensive cleansing.

What does the skin look like after treatment?

After a fruit acid or TCA peel, the skin is temporarily red. Peeling and slight crusting may occur as part of the healing process. With retinol peels, there is no visible effect for about 48 hours — then, noticeable peeling occurs for around two days.

What should be considered after treatment?

Chemical peels make the skin more sensitive to light. Using high-SPF skincare (SPF 50+) is essential. For medium-depth peels, temporary flaking or crusting can occur, which may require brief social downtime. We will discuss these details in advance during your consultation.

Are follow-up treatments recommended?

For fruit acid peels, up to six sessions every two to four weeks are effective. Deeper peels require fewer sessions — for retinol peels, three treatments spaced four weeks apart are ideal. TCA peels with shorter application times and minimal peeling can be repeated every two to four weeks. For more intensive TCA peels with longer downtime, a single session is often sufficient.
