Dual-Frequency Therapy with XERF® in Hamburg

When the skin and contours lose firmness and definition, this is usually due to the natural loss of collagen in the supporting connective tissue. Our patients often notice sinking of the cheeks and a softening of transitions, for example between the face and neck.

Strengthening the skin’s supporting structure is now possible with the XERF® procedure from Korea. What makes it special is the ability to work with two radiofrequencies (6.78 MHz and 2 MHz), allowing the tissue to be reached at different depths. This stimulates the body’s own remodeling processes, during which new collagen is formed – without needles and without downtime.

Whether XERF® is suitable for you depends on how pronounced the loss of firmness is and how much regenerative potential your tissue still has. Before every treatment, this is assessed by a medical specialist at our private practice in Hamburg – and we will tell you openly if another procedure is better suited to your condition.

Your Treatment in Hamburg

Everyone’s skin ages differently. Genetics, sun exposure, hormonal changes, tissue density and individual facial anatomy mean that two people of the same age can have completely different starting conditions. These factors are taken into account through our structured approach.

Skin Analysis

Before the first treatment, we assess skin quality, tissue firmness and anatomical conditions. We also clarify any pre-existing conditions, previous aesthetic treatments and any existing implants or medical devices.

Preparation

The areas to be treated are marked and cleansed. The depth and intensity settings are then selected, and a return electrode is attached to the body to safely complete the electrical circuit.

Energy Delivery

The handpiece is guided over the skin section by section, delivering targeted radiofrequency pulses. The system’s integrated cooling regulates the temperature of the skin surface and supports treatment comfort.

Skin Check

After the treatment is completed, the skin is checked again and we discuss the appropriate skincare and further course. As a rule, you can then return directly to your usual daily routine.

Which Areas Can Be Treated with XERF®?

In Hamburg, we treat the following areas with XERF®:

How Many Treatments Are Necessary?

Even a single treatment can achieve visible results. Whether additional sessions are necessary depends on the initial condition, the treatment area and the individual response of the tissue. At our private practice in Hamburg, the result is therefore assessed after some time has passed and discussed personally to determine whether further sessions are desired and appropriate.

How Long Do the Results Last?

For non-invasive monopolar radiofrequency, the scientific literature describes a duration of effect of around four to six months before the effects begin to diminish. Studies conducted specifically on XERF® to date generally indicate 3–4 months. As with any medical treatment, the actual duration depends on the individual conditions present. However, a maintenance treatment is always advisable, as the natural aging process continues. Our follow-up examinations will show when this may be appropriate for you.

Side Effects and Contraindications

Every medical treatment requires a specialist medical history and an assessment of possible exclusion criteria for patients. This is intended to minimize potential side effects and make the treatment as comfortable as possible.

How XERF® Works

During the treatment, radiofrequency energy is delivered into the tissue via the handpiece. There, the electrical current encounters the tissue’s natural resistance and is converted into heat. This principle, known as Joule heating, forms the basis of the monopolar radiofrequency procedure. A return electrode completes the electrical circuit. The heating triggers two processes that occur at very different times:

Immediate reaction

The heat disrupts the hydrogen bonds within the collagen fibers, causing them to contract and reorganize. This makes them shorter and thicker, which can create a feeling of increased firmness shortly after the treatment. This impression can vary from person to person.

Gradual remodeling

The thermal stimulus activates the fibroblasts, the cells that produce collagen, elastin and other components of the skin. This new formation and reorganization takes time, and the skin is intended to appear increasingly firmer and more compact over the following weeks.

Two Frequencies and Three Depth Settings

The special feature lies in the combination of two frequencies. While most radiofrequency devices work with a single frequency, XERF® delivers 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz in a single pulse. The higher frequency reaches the more superficial layers of the dermis, while the lower frequency penetrates deeper because its wavelength is attenuated less strongly within the tissue.

Three depth settings and ten intensity levels determine how much energy is delivered and where. To achieve this, the system continuously measures tissue resistance and adjusts the energy delivery accordingly, while the integrated cryogenic cooling protects the skin surface with every pulse.

The Limitations of XERF® and Combination Options

If significant volume loss is the primary concern, we refer to our other procedures such as hyaluronic acid fillers or biostimulators such as Sculptra® or Radiesse®. Dynamic wrinkles may require treatment of muscle activity, while scars, pores or superficial skin damage can be treated more specifically with other energy-based procedures, such as radiofrequency microneedling. This means that at our private practice in Hamburg, we have the option of combining different procedures and also supporting XERF® with additional treatments.

Our Different Procedures Compared:

A Closer Look: XERF® and Radiofrequency Microneedling

Although both procedures use radiofrequency, they are intended to address different concerns. Here is an overview:
XERF®
Radiofrequenz-Microneedling (GENIUS®)
Energy delivery
Handpiece applied externally, skin surface remains intact
Ultra-fine needles deliver the energy directly into the dermis
Treatment depth
Superficial to deep dermis and underlying connective tissue
Dermis, precisely at a defined depth
Indication
Decreasing tissue firmness, softening contours, jawline and neck
Skin quality, acne scars, pores, fine lines, skin texture
Anesthesia
Usually not required
Numbing cream before the session
Downtime
Usually no significant downtime
Possible redness and swelling for one to two days

When Firmness Rather Than Volume Is the Goal – XERF® Hamburg

XERF® is a possible option if the skin has mild to moderate loss of firmness and you are looking for a non-invasive treatment without additional volume. However, whether the procedure is actually suitable for your individual condition can only be determined after a personal examination. At our private dermatology practice in Hamburg, we therefore consider not only the desired treatment area, but also skin condition, tissue structure and any previous treatments. Together, we clarify what changes are realistic and whether XERF® can be used effectively on its own or as part of a coordinated treatment concept – conveniently book your non-binding consultation online or by phone.

Frequently Asked Questions About XERF®

Is XERF® suitable for all skin types?

Radiofrequency energy does not work through absorption by skin pigments, as is the case with various laser procedures. This can generally offer advantages for different skin tones. Individual suitability must be assessed based on the overall condition of the skin, regardless of skin type.
Radiofrequency treatment is not dependent on light sensitivity in the same way as certain laser treatments. It can therefore generally also be considered during sunnier months. After the treatment, however, individual skincare instructions and appropriate sun protection should still be followed.
Thin skin is not automatically an exclusion criterion. However, it may react more sensitively to thermal energy and often has less subcutaneous tissue. Therefore, the treatment area, depth mode and intensity must be selected particularly carefully. In cases of pronounced skin thinning or significant volume loss, however, a different treatment concept may be more suitable.
No, that is not the goal. The treatment is intended to firm the existing skin and tissue structure, not to change the proportions of the face.
