Dual-Frequency Therapy with XERF® in Hamburg
When the skin and contours lose firmness and definition, this is usually due to the natural loss of collagen in the supporting connective tissue. Our patients often notice sinking of the cheeks and a softening of transitions, for example between the face and neck.
Strengthening the skin’s supporting structure is now possible with the XERF® procedure from Korea. What makes it special is the ability to work with two radiofrequencies (6.78 MHz and 2 MHz), allowing the tissue to be reached at different depths. This stimulates the body’s own remodeling processes, during which new collagen is formed – without needles and without downtime.
Whether XERF® is suitable for you depends on how pronounced the loss of firmness is and how much regenerative potential your tissue still has. Before every treatment, this is assessed by a medical specialist at our private practice in Hamburg – and we will tell you openly if another procedure is better suited to your condition.

Your Treatment in Hamburg
Skin Analysis
Before the first treatment, we assess skin quality, tissue firmness and anatomical conditions. We also clarify any pre-existing conditions, previous aesthetic treatments and any existing implants or medical devices.
Preparation
The areas to be treated are marked and cleansed. The depth and intensity settings are then selected, and a return electrode is attached to the body to safely complete the electrical circuit.
Energy Delivery
The handpiece is guided over the skin section by section, delivering targeted radiofrequency pulses. The system’s integrated cooling regulates the temperature of the skin surface and supports treatment comfort.
Skin Check
After the treatment is completed, the skin is checked again and we discuss the appropriate skincare and further course. As a rule, you can then return directly to your usual daily routine.

How XERF® Works
The heat disrupts the hydrogen bonds within the collagen fibers, causing them to contract and reorganize. This makes them shorter and thicker, which can create a feeling of increased firmness shortly after the treatment. This impression can vary from person to person.
The thermal stimulus activates the fibroblasts, the cells that produce collagen, elastin and other components of the skin. This new formation and reorganization takes time, and the skin is intended to appear increasingly firmer and more compact over the following weeks.
Two Frequencies and Three Depth Settings
The special feature lies in the combination of two frequencies. While most radiofrequency devices work with a single frequency, XERF® delivers 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz in a single pulse. The higher frequency reaches the more superficial layers of the dermis, while the lower frequency penetrates deeper because its wavelength is attenuated less strongly within the tissue.
Three depth settings and ten intensity levels determine how much energy is delivered and where. To achieve this, the system continuously measures tissue resistance and adjusts the energy delivery accordingly, while the integrated cryogenic cooling protects the skin surface with every pulse.
The Limitations of XERF® and Combination Options
If significant volume loss is the primary concern, we refer to our other procedures such as hyaluronic acid fillers or biostimulators such as Sculptra® or Radiesse®. Dynamic wrinkles may require treatment of muscle activity, while scars, pores or superficial skin damage can be treated more specifically with other energy-based procedures, such as radiofrequency microneedling. This means that at our private practice in Hamburg, we have the option of combining different procedures and also supporting XERF® with additional treatments.
Procedure | Principle | Typical Focus | XERF® | Non-invasive monopolar radiofrequency without needles | Mild to moderate skin laxity and loss of contour definition |
|---|---|---|
GENIUS® RF Microneedling | Microneedles deliver radiofrequency to defined skin depths | Skin firmness, pores, scars and uneven skin texture |
Endolift® | A fine laser fiber is guided beneath the skin | Tightening and contouring for deeper tissue changes |
EMFACE® | Radiofrequency combined with electromagnetic muscle stimulation | Combination of skin treatment and support of the facial muscles |
Biostimulators | Injection of collagen-stimulating substances | Skin texture, firmness and, depending on the product, subtle volume effect |
Hyaluronic acid fillers | Targeted volume enhancement through injection | Volume deficits, proportions and contour enhancement |
BTX | Temporary reduction of targeted muscle activity | Expression lines and facial contours influenced by muscle activity |
A Closer Look: XERF® and Radiofrequency Microneedling
XERF® | Radiofrequenz-Microneedling (GENIUS®) | Energy delivery | Handpiece applied externally, skin surface remains intact | Ultra-fine needles deliver the energy directly into the dermis |
|---|---|---|
Treatment depth | Superficial to deep dermis and underlying connective tissue | Dermis, precisely at a defined depth |
Indication | Decreasing tissue firmness, softening contours, jawline and neck | Skin quality, acne scars, pores, fine lines, skin texture |
Anesthesia | Usually not required | Numbing cream before the session |
Downtime | Usually no significant downtime | Possible redness and swelling for one to two days |
