Your LightSCAN™ Treatment – The Procedure

A LightSCAN™ treatment is divided into four steps: medical skin analysis, cleansing and preparation, the actual laser application, and aftercare. Depending on the area and intensity, the session lasts 30 to 60 minutes.
Consultation & Anamnesis

Before the treatment, we assess skin type, skin structure, and potential inflammation. Based on this, the target areas as well as the intensity and scope of the application are defined.

Skin Preparation

The skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared for the treatment. Depending on the selected intensity, a numbing cream can be applied beforehand to make the procedure more comfortable.

Treatment with LightSCAN™

The scanner guides the laser energy over the treatment area in a controlled grid pattern. Exposure duration and fractional coverage are adjusted to suit the skin type and current skin condition.

Care and Regeneration

Temporary redness or a sensation of warmth may occur; rigorous UV protection and an active ingredient skincare routine support the subsequent regeneration phase. We will advise you accordingly.

Side Effects and Aftercare

Unlike full-surface ablative lasers, LightSCAN™ leaves no large open wound. In the first few hours to days following treatment, redness, a sensation of warmth, mild swelling, or temporary dryness are common; some experience brief roughness of the skin. These reactions usually subside on their own. To allow the skin to renew undisturbed, the following points are important in the days that follow:
After treatment, the skin is sensitized and requires non-irritating, soothing care. We will coordinate with you to determine which active ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid or calming serums, are suitable for the following days, and whether integrating regenerative procedures such as PRF or polynucleotides makes sense for your specific condition. What complements each other and in what order is determined after a specialist examination.

Contraindications

In cases of a tendency toward hypertrophic scarring/keloids, wound healing disorders, immunosuppression, or poorly controlled diabetes, we must evaluate your individual risk.

How Does the Laser Support Skin Renewal?

LightSCAN™ distributes the energy of the LASEmaR® 1500 across the skin in a controlled grid pattern. Rather than treating the entire area uniformly, numerous distinct thermal treatment zones are created. Untreated skin areas remain between these zones, which can support the subsequent regeneration processes.

Microthermal Zones and Tissue Remodeling

The 1,470 nm wavelength is primarily absorbed by water in the tissue and converted into heat. Depending on intensity, exposure duration, and fractional coverage, controlled photothermal impulses are generated. The resulting tissue response can be accompanied by the activation of fibroblasts and the remodeling of the extracellular matrix.

Realistic Assessment of Effects

As with any healing phase of the skin, this process takes time: changes in skin structure do not occur immediately during treatment, but rather develop over the course of the subsequent regeneration phase. The extent of these changes depends, among other things, on the initial skin condition, treatment intensity, and number of sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions About LightSCAN™ Treatment

Can the treatment also be used for active acne?

In cases of inflammatory active acne, LightSCAN™ can be used as part of the treatment plan. However, the inflammation should first be evaluated dermatologically and controlled with an appropriate acne therapy. Subsequently, it can be assessed whether a fractional laser treatment is also an option.
The main areas treated are the face, neck, and décolleté, as well as individual scar areas—regions where skin structure, pore size, or acne scars are the primary concern. Which areas can be effectively treated in your case will be determined during the medical skin analysis.
A darker skin type does not fundamentally rule out a non-ablative fractional laser treatment. However, pigment-rich skin can react more sensitively with temporary or longer-lasting pigment shifts. Energy and treatment density must therefore be adjusted individually. Freshly tanned skin and intense UV exposure are contraindications for prompt treatment.
Isotretinoin is not an automatic exclusion criterion for every fractional non-ablative laser treatment. However, an individual medical decision remains necessary. In particular, dosage, timing of intake, skin dryness, active acne, wound healing, and scarring tendency must be taken into account. Please inform us of the medication when booking your appointment and do not alter your dosage without prior consultation.
The shape, depth, and tethering of the scars are decisive. For shallower atrophic acne scars, a non-ablative fractional laser treatment can support gradual tissue remodeling. Very deep ice-pick scars or scars firmly bound to the underlying tissue often require a different or combined approach. For this reason, a precise scar analysis is an essential part of treatment planning.
