PRF – Your Natural Boost for the Face, Neck and Delicate Eye Area
When the skin around the eyes or in other areas begins to lose firmness, a traditional filler is not always the preferred option. With PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin), we take a more natural approach in Hamburg, as it is obtained from your own blood and forms a fine fibrin network that releases the body’s own signalling molecules to support the skin. The treatment may be suitable for selected areas of the face, although the possible outcome depends on the individual starting point and the specific treatment goal.
We therefore invite you to arrange an initial consultation at our private practice. During this appointment, we will discuss openly what the procedure may be able to achieve for you – and where its limitations lie.
Your Treatment in 4 Steps
Every treatment begins with a consultation and informed discussion. We assess the treatment area, review any pre-existing conditions and medications, and discuss whether the fibrin matrix is in fact the appropriate procedure for your concerns.
A small amount of blood is drawn for processing. With PRF, no anticoagulant is added, allowing the characteristic fibrin network to form during the subsequent process.
The collected blood is centrifuged immediately in our practice. Depending on the planned application, injectable biomaterial is obtained or the appropriate fraction is further processed into PRF Bio-Gel.
Following possible local anaesthesia, we administer the preparation using fine needles or, depending on the treatment area, a blunt microcannula. Afterwards, you will receive instructions regarding aftercare and the subsequent treatment plan.
Which Areas Can Be Treated?
- Eye area and lower eyelids: On the thin skin around the eyes, the treatment can be used to support natural tissue remodelling processes in cases of fine lines and finely wrinkled skin texture.
- Face and mouth area: Possible treatment areas include the cheeks, nasolabial area and fine lines around the mouth. The primary focus here is on skin quality.
- Neck, décolletage and smaller scars: The neck, décolletage and selected depressed scars may also be suitable for treatment.
When PRF Is Not the Right Procedure
What Is PRF and How Does It Work?
Platelet-rich fibrin is an autologous blood treatment in which a fine fibrin network is obtained from a small blood sample. Platelets and their signalling molecules remain embedded within this network. These signalling molecules stimulate connective tissue cells and support the formation of fine new blood vessels – the same signals that occur during any wound-healing process, but applied specifically where the skin may benefit from additional support.
The key factor is the release over time. A liquid plasma concentrate releases its signalling molecules rapidly, typically within the first hour. With the fibrin network, the release occurs more gradually because the embedded signalling molecules are released step by step from the fibrin matrix; this process continues over several days. The principle behind this is to provide a stimulus that lasts longer and remains locally confined.
Possible Side Effects
- Redness in the treated area, usually lasting for several hours
- Mild swelling, depending on the area, sometimes lasting until the following day
- Tenderness when touching the injection sites
- Small bruises, particularly in areas with thin skin such as around the eyes
- Longer-lasting swelling in very delicate tissue
- Small nodules at the injection site, which usually resolve on their own
- Infection at the injection site, as with any injection
Contraindications
- acute infections or inflammation in the treatment area
- relevant blood and coagulation disorders
- pronounced platelet function disorders
- certain medical conditions or medications
- pregnancy and breastfeeding in the case of aesthetic treatment
PRF Bio-Gel: What Is It?
PRF Bio-Gel is often described as an autologous alternative to traditional fillers. To produce it, a fraction of the autologous blood preparation is heated in a controlled manner until it develops a gel-like consistency. The gel can be introduced into selected areas of the face, where it can temporarily provide a structural effect.
However, the procedure is not equivalent to a hyaluronic acid filler. Bio-Gel does not allow for the same degree of precisely planned volume enhancement, and the duration of the effect cannot yet be predicted as accurately.
