Warts

Warts are caused by a viral infection with human papillomaviruses — of which medicine distinguishes more than 120 types. Since the immune system in children is not yet fully developed, HPV infections occur more frequently in them. Because warts can be extremely persistent, patience is important during the treatment process. At the beginning of therapy, it is not always possible to determine exactly how many sessions will be necessary. Your individual immune competence plays a decisive role.

Your questions, our answers

How does wart treatment proceed?

In wart treatment, we use a combination therapy: weekly removal, local application of a salicylic acid and 5-fluorouracil solution, plus cryotherapy.
Yes, they are transmitted from person to person. For example, if a family member has warts on the foot, everyone in the household should wear slippers in the bathroom.
By wearing slippers in swimming pools and other wet areas. If family members are affected, this also applies to the bathroom. Feet should be kept warm, but not to the point of excessive sweating. If there are infections with fungi or bacteria on the feet, they should be treated to prevent viruses from entering.
As we age, we develop virus-specific immune competence, allowing an intact immune system to fight off the infection. This explains the high spontaneous remission rate in children — more than 60% within two years.
