Children & Youth Consultation Hours

With great passion, even for your smallest.

As a mother, it is particularly important for me to support you in the care and treatment of sensitive children’s skin. We know that it will accompany and protect our children throughout their lives and therefore we only want the best for them and their skin. With my expertise and experience, I am able to help you as a mother.

As part of my consulting, I take care of burns and stings and treat exanthematous children’s diseases and skin infections related to fungi, viruses, bacteria and parasites. The treatment of warts and verrucas (plantar warts) as well as the laser treatment of hemangiomas are all part of my daily routine.

One focus is the treatment of neurodermatitis in children. In addition to acute therapy, an important aspect of treatment for me is training parents to deal with the highly sensitive skin of children so that the barrier function of the skin can be naturally strengthened.

If skin conditions occur during puberty, adolescents can often feel stigmatised. In these cases, sensitive conversations are just as important as the right treatment so that your child can feel comfortable in his or her skin again and, above all, that the risk of scarring is eliminated at an early stage. In addition to various medical creams, we sometimes use antibiotics for the treatment of acne or, depending on its severity, recommend a six to nine-month treatment with vitamin A derivatives in order to reduce the hormonally-induced sebaceous gland hyperactivity. Our beauticians at Pro Skin Solutions also gently cleanse the skin to accelerate the healing of acne.

Your questions.
Our answers.

Which exanthema (acute skin rashes) are relevant in childhood?

Classic exanthema diseases include measles, scarlet fever, rubella, fifth disease (erythema infectiosum) and roseola (exanthema subitum). Rashes also occurs, for example, in glandular fever (Pfeiffer’s disease, infectious mononucleosis), hand, foot and mouth disease and chickenpox.

How is scabies treated in children?

An infection of scabies mites in children from the age of two is treated with a permethrin-containing cream, which is applied to the entire skin surface and washed off after eight to twelve hours. Usually one treatment is sufficient, but we recommend a second treatment after one week. For persistent infections, permethrin is also available in tablet form for body weights above 15 kg.

When can my child return to school?

After treatment, children can return to nursery, kindergarten or school.

How are head lice treated?

For the treatment of head lice, we prescribe a special silicone oil with dimethicone which is sprayed onto the scalp and hair and suffocates the parasites and kills the larvae and eggs. After the treatment, the hair should be combed with a nit or detection comb to effectively remove the parasites. In addition, bed linen should be washed at 60 degrees C and all hairbrushes cleaned.

What are verrucas (plantar warts)?

Verrucas are extremely common progression-limited infections of the skin. Infants and adolescents are particularly affected, with indented warts the size of a pinhead. Scratches can release secretions containing viruses, resulting in the growth of new warts. For this reason, we strongly recommend treatment to reduce the risk of repeatedly contracting the virus.

When are allergy tests possible for children?

There are no age limits for allergy tests, but children under the age of four are usually not tested.

How can I reduce the risk of neurodermatitis?

If possible in your situation, exclusive breastfeeding during the first four months will help, with supplementation only after the fourth month.

What should I do if my child suffers from neurodermatitis?

Make sure that you apply a moisturising cream to the skin every day and bath the child only briefly, adding oils and making sure the water is not too hot. Do not bath your child on a daily basis – once or twice a week is adequate and will prevent the skin from drying out too much. Wide clothing made from cotton and linen irritates the skin less than tight clothing made of wool, silk or synthetic fibres. It is also important that your child is not dressed too warmly, as overheating stimulates itching. Wash clothes before they are worn for the first time. To prevent your child scratching, which could also cause additional skin infections, fingernails should always be cut short.
